After 15 years of service, Bob Deputy has retired from Advancial’s Supervisory Committee.
The Advancial Supervisory Committee is a team off five volunteers appointed by the Board of Directors and is responsible for ensuring that Advancial safeguards its assets, complies with regulatory requirements and maintains adequate systems of internal control and financial reporting. Advancial Supervisory Committee members have a long tenure, currently serving anywhere from 16 to over 20 years.

“What I will remember about Bob is his vigilance when it came to any monetary loss to Advancial.  His approach was if it was his personal money. I appreciated his candor and his expectations of highest standards of business practices for Advancial.” – Bob Langley, Supervisory Committee Member

Bob began his career serving in the military for 12 years before completing his degree in Petroleum Engineering and Geology at Texas A&M University. He went on to join the Atlantic Richfield Company in 1977 and became a member of their credit union, now known as Advancial, in 1978. His career at ARCO took him all over the world until he retired in late 1996.

Bob served as President of the ARCO Retirees' Club from 1999 to 2004. He began serving on Advancial’s Supervisory Committee in 2004 and has been an invaluable member for 15 years.
Advancial Ranked 21st Medium-Sized Company for 2019 Best Companies to Work for in Texas
Advancial Federal Credit Union ranked 21st in the Medium-Sized Companies category for the 2019 Best Companies to Work for in Texas. The awards program was created in 2006 and is a project of Texas Monthly, the Texas Association of Business (TAB), Texas SHRM and Best Companies Group.

We’re proud to be recognized as a Best Company to Work for in Texas for the ninth consecutive year,” said Brent Sheffield, Advancial’s President and CEO. “It’s a testament to our outstanding employees and the positive culture we build together every day.

Advancial first landed on the Best Companies to Work for in Texas list in 2011 and has made it every year thereafter. In order to maintain its place as one of the best places to work in the state, Advancial offers uncommonly rich benefits to retain its employees and to attract new talent: a vacation home in Florida that employees can use for free with a second vacation home in the works, an 8% 401K contribution with no matching required, a robust health, dental, and vision plan, and much more. They even offer and subsidize pet insurance for their employees’ furry family members.

Advancial’s final 2019 ranking was announced at the Texas Association of Business (TAB) Best Companies to Work for in Texas Awards Dinner and Celebration on March 28 at the Hilton, Downtown Austin.

“This really is a unique place to work,” said Olivia Thurmond, VP of Human Resources, who joined the Advancial team in November of 2018. “Advancial’s history on the Best Companies to Work for in Texas list was definitely a factor in my decision to join the company” she said. “While many companies look for ways to cut benefits to save money, Advancial is always looking for new ways to make our benefits even better. I’m confident we’ll be on this list for many years to come.” Thurmond joined Advancial with 27 years of experience in Human Resources after relocating to Texas from Seattle.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Companies to Work for in Texas. The first part, worth approximately 25% of the evaluation, consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, systems, philosophies, practices, and demographics. The remaining 75% of the evaluation consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings.

With a history dating back to 1937, Advancial provides a diversified line of advanced financial solutions to its members. Today, Advancial is a full-service financial institution that serves more than 80,000 members worldwide and has assets of approximately $1.6 billion.
Advancial Awards Dinero Teens Scholarships

June 11, 2018

Advancial Federal Credit Union continued its initiative to support education by awarding $1,000 scholarships to five Dinero Teens members. Dinero Teens is a financial services program designed for Advancial members ages 13 to 18.

“Choosing winners for our Dinero Teens Scholarships is one of the more challenging tasks we have each year,” said Deborah Griesbach, Chief Marketing Officer of Advancial. “All of the applicants are so passionate and creative, it’s tough to pick just five. We know each member has a bright future ahead and we’re proud to be a part of their journey.”

Dinero Teens were asked to choose from one of three topics. They could describe a life experience that changed their perspective, describe why they want to go on to higher education, or reflect on an experience that challenged a belief or idea of theirs. Students could submit their application through a variety of mediums, including essay, poem, PowerPoint presentation, illustration or video, among others. Five students were picked from a competitive application pool and each was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to be used for tuition, books or living expenses. Each winner also received a pre-college care package with school supplies to help them prepare for a successful college experience.

The 2018 scholarship recipients include Elizabeth Seek from Katy, Texas, Grace Buckle from Missouri City, Texas, Heather Burnison from Frisco, Texas, Madison Chandler from Broussard, Louisiana, and Sophia Kidd from Katy, Texas.

The Dinero Teens program prepares Advancial’s young members for adulthood by teaching them financial responsibility with a number of available tools and resources, including a quarterly newsletter. Dinero Teens members also have access to a range of financial products and services including savings accounts, low minimum starter certificates, checking accounts and credit cards, providing students with a safe way to learn the fundamentals of financial wellness.

Advancial Named a Best Company to Work for in Texas

April 9, 2018

Advancial Federal Credit Union has been named 9th on the list of Best Companies to Work for in Texas in the Medium Employer Category (100-499 U.S. employees).

“We’re exceptionally pleased with this year’s results in the Best Companies survey,” said Tara Weaver, Advancial’s Assistant Vice President of Human Resources. “Advancial saw a substantial jump from last year’s ranking of 29th place to this year’s ranking of 9th and we think that reflects our continuing effort to recruit the best financial services industry talent and treat them like family instead of like numbers.”

The Best Companies to Work for in Texas program is comprised of two parts: the Employer Benefits & Policies Questionnaire and the Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey. The Employer Benefits and Policies Questionnaire captures important information regarding company policies, practices and demographics. The Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey asks employees to respond to more than 70 statements on a five point agreement scale. This portion also includes two open-ended questions and seven demographic questions.

Advancial placed high on this list because of its nearly unmatched benefits, including excellent health insurance provided at low cost to employees and their families, an 8% 401(k) contribution and paid family leave that allows employees time off to care for children, spouses and parents.

The credit union also encourages all employees to get out from behind their desks in a variety of ways. Advancial purchased a Florida beach house for employees to use on vacation, they offer paid time to volunteer in the community, and the financial institution takes all employees to “Celebrate Advancial,” a yearly company getaway.

Today, Advancial is a full-service financial institution that serves more than 80,000 members worldwide and has assets of approximately $1.5 billion. “Advancial has been recognized as an outstanding employer for nearly a decade and we’re extremely proud of that fact,” said Tara Weaver, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at Advancial. “We want employees to be proud of where they work, and happy while they’re here. Advancial seeks to make all employees feel valued and respected, and we believe these awards reflect that ideology.”

Advancial was honored to receive the Best Companies to Work for in Texas award for the eighth consecutive year. This promotes celebration of employees who work hard and ensures no one goes unnoticed.
